Embody your anime spirit through cosplay and performance at our Cosplay Contest, hosted by Chuupacabras. Our panel of expert judges will be awarding prizes based on Accuracy, Craftsmanship, Presentation, and Originality.

Ronin-Expo 2023 Cosplay Contest Rules

General Information

All contestants will be judged on the quality of their costumes as well as their stage presence. This year we will not be doing a skit/performance. You will have up to 1 minute to portray your character on stage [Groups will have 2 minutes]. If you will be submitting as a group please be sure to inform the Cosplay Coordinator during pre-judging.

DO NOT FORGET TO SUBMIT YOUR AUDIO IN THE MUSIC/AUDIO SECTION BELOW OR ON SIGN-UP TAB.

All contestants must be registered attendees of Ronin-Expo 2023.

Rules and Guideline

  1. All types of Cosplays are welcome. It can be from any type of fandom (No original characters)

  2. Cosplays must be covered to the standard of a swimsuit.

    • No Nudity Allowed! You will not be allowed on stage without the basic coverage of a regular bikini or swimsuit.

  3. No Vulgar Cosplays

    • No Hitler/Nazi Cosplays

    • NO BLACKFACE

    • Terrorists

    • ETC.

  4. No Weapons made of metal will be allowed on stage for props. (They will not be allowed in the convention).

  5. No loose glitter or explosives

    • Keep in mind the stage is shared by various performers throughout the day and we are guests at the Budokan.

  6. Cannot submit for a Double Entry

Pre-Judging

  • All contestants must be available for pre-judging from 1pm to 2:30pm.

    • More information will be provided by the Cosplay Contest organizer. 

  • The pre-judging will take place on the second floor of the Terasaki Budokan.

    • There will be a check-in table.

    • You must check in before attending Pre-Judging.

  • During pre-judging, contestants will display their cosplays to the judges.

  • All cosplays will be closely looked at one contestant at a time.

Time

  • Contestants will have a walk/skit/performance up to 1 minute.

  • Groups will have a max of 2 minutes.

  • If you go above the time threshold your performance audio will be cut.

Criteria

Accuracy

  • Accuracy of Character Design

    • Details - Wig, Costume, Make-Up, Props etc.

    • Personification of Character - Voice, poses, etc.

Craftsmanship

  • Craftsmanship - Effort and General Quality

    • Types of materials used in the construction

Presentation

  • Presentation to the audience/judges

    • Portrayal of character on stage

    • Overall performance on stage during the show

Originality 

  • Bonus points to break ties
